UNM Cancer Center: New Mexico’s Isotope Production Facility

Click here for video about the press conference and cyclotron.
10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 15, 2009

The UNM Cancer Center is teaming up with global technology leader Siemens Medical Solutions USA to bring the most cutting-edge cancer diagnosis available to New Mexico.

A Siemens Eclipse Cyclotron and a new isotope production facility and radiopharmacy installed in our new building will enable us to produce medically useful isotopes, which are a critical component of powerful cancer imaging and treatment methods. Isotopes also have incredible potential as new cancer therapies, and we are exploring those possibilities with Los Alamos National Laboratory. In the past, we have had to go outside of New Mexico to bring this therapy to our patients. With this new equipment, we are not only furthering the fight against cancer in New Mexico. Our emerging partnerships will also benefit the state’s economy with tremendous new economic development opportunities.

Please join us on Tuesday, September 15 at 10:00 am at the main entrance of our new facility, located at 1201 Camino de Salud NE as we celebrate this landmark occasion for the state of New Mexico. Please RSVP by Wednesday, September 9 to Kari Brane at 505-272-4443 or KEBrane@salud.unm.edu.
